BY CAR: THE A1231 Sunderland Highway will be closed at the Nissan roundabout between 9.30am and 3.30pm until Thursday afternoon. Motorists will be diverted via the slip roads. Tomorrow, the Coast Road beneath Norham Road Bridge will be closed for approximat­ely two hours, between 11am to 1pm, in preparatio­n for waterproof­ing the new road. Diversions will be in place using slip roads in both directions. The A189 Killingwor­th Road in Newcastle is closed between West Farm Avenue and A191 Benton Park Road/Freeman Road. The A184 Felling Bypass either side of Heworth roundabout in Gateshead is down to a single lane. Speed restrictio­ns are in place due to roadworks on the A19 and A1058 at the Silverlink roundabout. BY BUS: NEWGATE Street in Newcastle is closed until June 22 between Clayton Street and Gallowgate as the road is widened – buses will not stop on this road. Bus stops on Cherry Blossom Way and Nissan Way in Washington are out of use. Routes 56 and 56A are diverted from Washington Road via Spire Road. In Gateshead, routes 4, 35A, 57, X9 and X10 are unable to serve their normal stops between Heworth Interchang­e and Lingey Lane/Kirkwood Gardens after 8pm until Wednesday. Buses will be diverted via Meresyde, Grange Crescent, High Lanes and High Heworth Lane at these times; use Heworth Interchang­e or stops on the diversion route. The road between the Jolly Drovers roundabout and Broom’s Church, Consett will be closed at night until Thursday. Service 16 will be unable to serve the northwest of Catchgate, Harelaw, Lily Gardens, Prince of Wales, Ewehurst Road, Flint Hill or Dipton. A shuttle bus will run between Stanley Bus Station, Annfield Plain, Catchgate, Harelaw, Lily Gardens, Prince of Wales and Ewehurst Road.
