SCHAR ADMITS TOON MOVE IS A DREAM COME TRUE
FABIAN Schar used to watch Premier League football as a kid and he says he is now getting to live his dream of mixing it with the best players in the world.
The 26-year-old has recollections of Alan Shearer banging in the goals on TV and admits he cannot quite believe he will now have the chance to take on the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool this season.
Schar arrives with good pedigree and has the experience of playing in La Liga against the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona during his stint at Deportivo La Coruña.
Looking ahead to his new challenge, Schar told the Chronicle: “I think the Premier League is the best league in the world.
“I am really happy to have this opportunity to play against the best players and best teams.
“Of course I played in Spain last year (against) Barcelona and Real Madrid. “So I think I know how to play against the big names. “I also have experience when I played with Basel against English clubs so it is good for me. “The Premier League was the most important league for me to watch growing up. I liked the football and the stadiums and fans.
“Now I have the chance to play and be part of it. I remember Alan Shearer being a legend at the club and he is still classed as a big idol.
“The stadium is fantastic. I played there in 2012 with Switzerland at the Olympics.
“It is not the same as playing in front of the home fans, so I am looking forward to my debut.”
Schar also revealed he made up his mind to join United after just one brief conversation with Rafa Benitez.
He reflected: “It was not long, pretty much an instant decision.
“After being contacted by the coach I had a really good feeling and it was clear I wanted to come here
