Toon finish mid table for most Googled top-tier teams

NEWCASTLE United were the ninth most searched Premier League side across the globe over the course of the 2017-18 campaign.

Data acquired by the Chronicle from the Google Trends data team show United were a popular search by people all over the world.

Aside from the United Kingdom, the Magpies were found to be most popular in Australia, New Zealand and Spain. Australia came in as second as to where United were most search for.

However despite this, they were still behind eight other teams.

Liverpool were top being searched for 8.3 times more than United were.

Other surprise countries where United were often sought on Google include Hong Kong, Indonesia, Uganda.

Denmark was the seventh most popular country for United, coinciding with club’s chase of Danish strike Nicolai Jorgensen.

Peru (18th) was also a popular country for Newcastle, presumably down to former winger Nolberto Solano popularity with the Magpies.

Islam Slimani’s arrival also Tanzania and saw his home country listed as 19th most popular.

Ahead of United in the global list are teams with a strong global presence, such as Manchester City and Chelsea, while Liverpool were the most searched.

Globally Liverpool were searched 14.2 times more than United, while Manchester United were search 6.42 times more.
