A lesson in helping others
SCHOOLS ARE ENCOURAGED TO JOIN BBC FUNDRAISING ENDEAVOURS
BBC Children in Need is calling on schools across Newcastle to join the 2018 schools fundraising campaign following last year’s success, when almost £96,000 was raised by schools such as Gosforth Junior High Academy and Oakfield Infant School in support of the charity.
This year’s campaign, in partnership with leading educational resource publisher Twinkl, invites pupils and teachers to help raise even more money to support disadvantaged children and young people across the UK, with the help of free fundraising packs.
Jon Seaton, the founder and chief executive of Twinkl, said: “We’re honoured to be partnering with BBC Children in Need this year and supporting schools across the UK with the fabulous fundraising they do for the charity.
“Our in-house designers, illustrators and content writers have created free resources especially for the schools campaign, full of exciting and inspiring ideas. The majority of the team at Twinkl are current and former teachers and educators, allowing us to create materials that are practical and easy-to-use as well as fun.
“We will be using some of them to do our own fundraising at the Twinkl HQ! The work of BBC Children in Need and the projects it supports help so many children and young people across the UK and we feel privileged to be part of this year’s campaign.”
The free fundraising packs from BBC Children in Need and Twinkl will be tailored to the correct age group full of fundraising ideas, inspiration, tools, tips, and resources.
For fundraising nurseries and pre-schools, BBC Children in Need has teamed up with CBeebies show Hey Duggee to encourage children to host ‘Duggee Day’ and earn their own ‘Pudsey Badge.’ The early-years fundraising pack provides ideas and suggestions to help little ones become ‘Squirrels’ for the day to help raise money for BBC Children in Need.
Primary schools are being encouraged to join The Big Spotacular and go spotty to help raise money for the charity, which has also teamed up with Blue Peter to encourage schools to host their own bring-and-buy sales, with pupils encouraged to sell off old toys, host a bake sale or sell some Pudsey goodies to raise funds.
Secondary schools are asked to ‘Do Your Thing’ for BBC Children in Need, channelling their passions, hobbies or fears to help change the lives of disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.
Claire Hoyle, commercial director of BBC Children in Need, said: “Our schools fundraising campaign is back and promises to be better than ever.
“Children helping children really is a marvellous thing and our new fundraising packs are brimming with ideas and tools which will put the ‘fun’ into fundraising!
“The money raised will help us to change children’s lives across the UK.”
