I quit music for my sanity, says Cheryl

CHERYL has spoken out on her fouryear absence from music, explaining she was not “inspired” and needed the break for her “sanity”.

The Geordie singer’s new single Love Made Me Do It is set to be released tomorrow.

Speaking ahead of the release on fellow singer Jessie Ware’s podcast Table Manners, Cheryl admits she felt like she was living in a “negative space” during her hiatus from the music industry.

The former Girls Aloud singer said: “I needed it for my sanity. I honestly didn’t know how much I needed it until I did it. I’d just had enough.

“I wasn’t inspired, I was jaded. It felt like a negative space I was living in and then you get to the point where it’s like ‘What is the point?’

“I could be doing something I hate doing and feel the same way, so why am I like putting myself through this?

“I like a balance. I like peace and harmony in my life.”

Cheryl released a teaser of her upcoming single on Instagram on Tuesday, delivering the line “Oh my god, I’m such a sucker, I fall in love with every ****** ”

But the 35-year-old has been quick to dismiss any idea she is targeting her former partner and ex One Direction star Liam Payne.

The couple - who insist they will raise their son Bear together - split after two years of dating earlier this year.

Cheryl added:”Actually all the music and all the songs that I’ve got ready were done way before we split - none of them are about anybody.

“I wasn’t sat writing a love poem to anyone or about anybody.”
