Bell’s hat-trick bursts Ashington side’s Bubble

EAST CHEVINGTON climbed to the top of the Premier Division with an emphatic 5-2 win over Bubbles Ashington.

Kevin Bell was the hero with a hattrick, with Luke and Calvin Baston completing the scoring for the new table-toppers.

Stephen Frater and Michael Todd found the net for Bubbles but it wasn’t enough to end their losing start to the season, which now stretches to five games.

Black Horse’s 5-3 win over Cambois Club saw them leapfrog the opponents and move into fifth in Division One.

Cambois held a 3-2 half-time lead, but three second-half goals swung the game in favour of the eventual victors.

Michael Hartley bagged a brace for the Black Horse, with Joe Redford, David Houghton and Brian Watson also scoring, while Cambois’ Jai Chung scored a brace,. Joe Armstrong completed the scoring.

■ Bedlington Social Club booked their place in the NFA Sunday Cup semi-finals in the most dramatic fashion with a late penalty in extra time to win at Bardon Mill Bowes Lyons.

The visitors went 2-0 up thanks to Liam Candlish’s double but were pegged back by the home side’s resilience, which eventually saw them draw level.

In extra time, Bedlington retook the lead thanks to Peter Roberts, only for the hosts to equalise.

And with a penalty shootout drawing ever closer, there was one final twist as Roberts converted a penalty in the dying stages to seal a spot in the final four for United.

The result means Bedlington will now face North Shields Billy Mill for a spot in the final.

■ Ashington Town Mortimer sealed their place in the final four of the Saints Shield thanks to a 4-2 win over local rivals Ashington Town Central.

Lee Messenger led the scoring for the Mortimer with two goals on the day, while Daniel Hartshorn and Liam Thompson scored the other goals. Central’s goals came from Stephen Frater and Michael Todd.

■ In the Alan Davison Cup, three quarter-finals took place, with one place still up for grabs in the final four.

Division One side Cramlingto­n Burton House beat top-league opposition to secure their place in the semi-finals with a 5-3 win over Newbiggin New Ship.

Karl Boughen made the difference for Burton House with a magnificen­t hat-trick, with Scott Smith and Tom Towart each getting on the scoreboard. On target for the New Ship was Karl Davison, Colin McLellend and Lee Warren but it wasn’t enough to keep their side in the competitio­n.

Premier Division side Amble Tavern walloped Ellington Plough 4-1 to book their place in the next round, despite a good performanc­e from the home side.

Max Robison scored for the Plough, but Josh Hay’s brace and goals from Connor Leason and Craig Muter put Tavern through.

Ashington RAOB also went through with the same score away at Newsham Victory.

Craig Frazer scored for the VIV, while Chad Miller, Damien Stevens, Michael Adamson and Shaun Gibson all scored for the Buffs.

In round one of the competitio­n, Premier Division Blyth Town Sunday thumped Division One side and local rivals Blyth United Services 5-2 to progress.

On target for Blyth Town were Liam Gillesphie, who bagged a brace, Robert Ridley, Mathew Wade and Martyn Hepple. Scoring for the Services was Paul Huck and Lee Richardson.
