Bournemouth former Magpie unsentimental on return

DAN Gosling wants to see Newcastle United do well but is hoping that starts after today’s game.

The midfielder could turn out for Bournemouth as the south coast team make the long trip north, with Gosling insisting that there are ‘no friends’ when it comes to kick-off.

The former Everton player joined United in 2010 as a 20-year-old with huge potential but made only 24 appearances over four years due to injuries and form of other players.

Speaking about his time on Tyneside, he said: “I was there for four years and didn’t really get a chance to play.

“It was a tough four years but I learned a lot. I stayed professional and worked hard.

“I have totally moved on from that. I’m at a very good club here and am very happy with my football.

“I want them to do well because of the staff and friends I have there but, when it comes to Bournemouth versus Newcastle there are no friends.

“We will say hello after the game but ultimately it’s three points on offer for us.”

Gosling scored the equaliser between these two teams last February, when United threw away a 2-0 lead at Vitality Stadium.

That result cemented Bournemouth’s superb record against the Magpies – collecting seven points out the last 12 available.

The Cherries currently lie sixth in the table and head to St James’ Park looking for a third consecutive away win.
