- By SIMON MEECHAN

HIT the North Festival returns to Newcastle in 2019 for a weekend of live music across the city’s venues.

The likes of Jake Bugg and Tom Grennan have already been confirmed for the inner-city festival.

Now, the organisers have released details about the event’s opening parties which will launch the Hit the North 2019.

Two of the UK’s most revered indie/new-wave acts will kick-off next year’s festival.

Metronomy will perform at Boiler Shop on Friday, May 3.

Led by the enigmatic founder and frontman, Joseph Mount, Metronomy are famed for their high octane live shows and unique blend of indie pop and nu-disco.

Reading’s indie art rockers Sundara Karma will play at the O2 Academy Newcastle on the same evening.

Organised by the celebrated events company SSD Concerts, the opening parties will also feature a string of soon-to-be-announced special guests and further special live music pop up gatherings throughout the city.

SSD Concerts’ Steve Davis, said:

“The 2019 edition of Hit the North is going to be our biggest and best yet and this latest announcement is just one of the ways we’re going to make this a big step on last year’s festival. We’re massive fans of both of these acts and we know they’re going to kick the party off in style.”

As well as major headline artists, Hit the North will showcase a huge range of new acts across all its participating venues. Tickets for Hit the North Festival and for the opening parties are available now via www.hitthenorthfestival.co.uk
