Saint Charles goal fest sees Newcastle running for the hills

NORTH EAST CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP LEAGUE

-

WITH Stockton Churches Portrack involved in the Durham FA Minor Cup, Hillsong Newcastle – away at Saint Charles RC Church – had the opportunity to share the top spot.

However, the plan all fell apart after 40 seconds as Hillsong’s Andrew Howes received a ball on the right to cut in and score in the bottom left corner. Saint Charles doubled their lead from Tom Martin after 14 minutes.

As Saint Charles went for a third, the ball broke and Hillsong sent a pass to Matt Chambers. He spilt the centre halves and scored. A penalty on the 41st minute, scored by Gary Frizzle after a foul in the box, saw Hillsong go in on a high having got the match back to 2-2.

Three substitutes after 54 minutes by Saint Charles were quickly rewarded as one of the subs was fouled in the box and Joey Burgress scored from the spot to regain the lead. A second of the substitutes, Duncan Falconer, then netted two minutes later to turn the match round in four minutes as Saint Charles lead 4-2. The third substitute Jonny Wilson then scored to make it 5-2, before Falconer got his second.

Hillsong were awarded a free kick in the 89th minute which Ben Jeffery scored from 18 yards to see the match finish 6-3.

North Shields Community Christians faced Consett Saint Patricks and on 18 minutes Consett’s Dan Fodden scored from a back-post header.

Alan Ewart equalised from outside the box before Stuart Cranswick received a ball from Scott Purcell to slot the ball away and give North Shields a 2-1 lead.

A neat throughball from Mitchell Renny in to Scott Purcell’s path saw him wrap the match up for North Shields.

In Division One, Stockton Salvation Army held on to top spot after a 4-2 victory over Heaton.

Second place Jubilee Church Teesside travelled up the A19 to YAV SIFF and came home with a 3-2 win.

There was a local derby in North Northumberland as Morpeth Mighty Oaks hosted Blyth Family Church.

In a frantic first half with no goals, the game burst in to life after 55 minutes with five goals scored in the space of 15 minutes.

They all went to Morpeth Mighty Oaks, with Josh Tinsley, Mark Nicholas, Chris Barnes, Lewis Tanney and Josh Bell getting on the scoresheet. Callum Fisher got a consolation goal in the last five minutes for Blyth.
