SECONDSOUT Ornsby can’t wait to make his pro debut

- Boxing talk with JOHN GIBSON

NEWCASTLE’S Anth Ornsby will make his pro debut on the final show this year for promoters Steve Wraith and Phil Jeffries at the Lancastrian Suite on Saturday, November 24.

Ornsby will feature on an eightfight card.

He will take on Mike Castell and says he cannot wait to make the jump from the amateur ranks.

“I was hoping to get out earlier this year but the paperwork took a bit longer than expected,” said Anth. “My training has gone well and I’ve had some good sparring. I will have a lot of support, with friends and family buying tickets, and just want to repay them with a good performance. “

Another local lad on the bill, Lawrence Osueke, has had a great year and impressed on the Lewis Ritson undercard recently with a solid points win over the experienced Charles Amadu to take his record to six consecutive victories.

“I’ve been very active this year and my new team has got me in great shape and the right fights, so I am happy with my progress,” he said. “I have just signed a 12-month sponsorship deal with Solutions Recruitment this week which will take the financial pressure off me in 2019.”

Tommy Ward will look to end the year on a high as his management team weigh up his path to glory in the new year, while Luke Cope, Waqas Mohammed, and Terry Tyres all hope to build on their good early fight records.

Frank Warren fighters ‘Smokin’ Joe Maphosa and Troy ‘The Trojan’ Williamson make up the eight-fight card sponsored by O’Tooles Gym and LA Taxis.
