Legend is excited to return for Legends’ fixture

NEWCASTLE United legend Tino Asprilla will pull on a black-and-white shirt one more time in April.

The man who scored a stunning hat-trick against Barcelona at St James’ Park is set to hook up with former team-mates such as Steve Watson, John Beresford (right) and Peter Beardsley – who have all agreed to take part in a legends game at the Gateshead International Stadium.

The clash will be a fund-raiser to help boost Watson’s transfer pot next season - with Asprilla admitting he cannot wait to be back home.

He said: “I love coming back to my second home Newcastle.

“Steve Watson has told me I need to be fit because Gateshead have a younger squad so I am working hard every day.

“I am also still working hard at socialising so I will still fit in on the Quayside.

“Joking aside, I cannot wait to pull on the black and white shirt again and entertain them.

“I am definitely taking any penalties.”

Also on the team sheet will be Milan Srnicek, the brother of late Toon legend Pavel. Milan, speaking from the Czech Republic, said: “It is nice to be asked to play again for Newcastle Legends and I know Pavel will be smiling at my pilgrimage to his spiritual home.

“I enjoyed my last game but was very nervous because I am not a natural goalkeeper so I am hoping for an outfield role on this occasion!”

Tickets for the Gateshead Legends v Newcastle Legends match are available online now (£10 adults, £5 children). For more information go to www. newcastle legends.com.
