Touch of luck puts Dennis in the money

-

FOOTIE fan Dennis Dryden is £2,000 richer - thanks to the new way to play the Football Pools.

And he had a touch of luck when he scooped his cash - on only the second time he’d played it.

Dennis spotted the Pools now has an online version called Footie5 when he was reading the Chronicle.

He decided to play with his score predictions and he was amazed when his four out of five draws came up to put him in the money.

“I’ve just started playing it,” said grandad Dennis, 68, of Jesmond, Newcastle.

“It was the second time I’ve played and I won £2,000. I got four scores right out of my predicted five. If I’d got the five I would have won £25,000. But £2,000 is still very nice.”

The Football Pools has been an essential part of the week in homes across the North East for almost a century, changing the lives of thousands of people. Now thanks to The Pools there’s a new football craze, Footie5 - a new and exciting free to play game.

The Football Pools never really went away and for more than 15 years a team has been working hard behind the scenes to grow the business digitally, inventing new games for new audiences while also remaining committed to its heritage.

Retired scaffolding manager Dennis, who has three grown up children and eight grandkids, added: “I predicted Chelsea to beat Wolves but that didn’t happen but I also predicted Newcastle to draw with Everton 1-1 and that did.

“I think I will be doing a bit of Christmas shopping with my winnings and see what I can buy. I might even book a holiday to the Cost Del Sol in Spain.”

Dennis had never entered the Pools before but his dad, Thomas, did it for more than 30 years before he passed away.

“My dad did it for decades but never won a thing,” added Dennis.

“It’s a lovely early Christmas present and I’ll be a regular now. You never know, I might be on a winning streak and I might get the £25,000 next time.”
