Sister act is so late - but is a clincher

-

ST Cuthbert’s Under-12s defeated Monkwearmouth Academy 2-1 after extra time in the fourth round of the ESFA PlayStation Cup.

Monkwearmouth started strongly and twice tested Saints’ goalkeeper Jack Gribbon courtesy of two longrange shots from Fletcher Ramsey.

Connor Ward at the heart of the home defence had to be dominant to repel the constant attacks.

Against the run of play, a cross found Kai Banks at the back post and he turned it home to give the Saints the lead.

At the beginning of the second half, Monkwearmouth gained a corner.

It evaded all the players at the front post - but Ramsey stormed in to blast the ball home for the equaliser.

The Wearsiders now pushed for the winning goal and forced Gribbon into a fantastic save.

Neither team took its chances as the game went into extra time.

Another Monkwearmouth shot from Jude McEwan then had Gribbon at full stretch. Just as the match seemed to be going to penalties, Saints forced a corner on the right.

When the cross came over the visitors’ defence cleared the ball to the edge of the box where Frazer Sisterson was waiting.

He evaded two challenges and then blasted the ball into the goal.

St Cuthbert’s are away to Kingsmeadow or John Spence in the fifth round.
