Narrow victory proves the tops for Rothbury

NORTHERN ALLIANCE LEAGUE DIV TWO

-

ROTHBURY regained top spot when they edged a five-goal thriller at lowly Cramlington Town and disposed leaders Whitley Sporting Club, who fell to a 3-0 reverse at Spittal Rovers.

The Reds fell behind to John Campbell’s opener four minutes before the break.

James Loughborough quickly equalised but Campbell restored the hosts’ advantage just after the hour.

Tony Brown levelled for a second time ten minutes later and Daniel Thompson grabbed what proved to be the winner nine minutes from time.

Spittal, meanwhile, picked up a big win - although it did not look that way for most of the game.

Ben Amers gave the hosts the lead just 23 minutes in and it remained that way until the dying minutes when Craig Bell made it safe.

Kyle Jeffery added a third in stoppage time.

Plenty of goals were scored in the other two league matches.

A Joe Moscrop treble featured in Blyth’s 6-0 success at Stobswood, he being joined on the scoresheet by a Josh Monaghan brace and one for Reece Farrell.

Willington Quay Saints came from behind at Gateshead Redheugh to triumph 5-1.

Aidan Rutledge gave the hosts an early lead but, after Dylan Adamson notched a brace, it became one-way traffic.

Brandon Williams added the third shortly after the hour and, in the final ten minutes, further goals were added by Sean Conway and Joe Connor.

Burradon needed extra time to defeat Division One hosts 1-0 in the Bill Gardner Cup Isbister with the decider while Whitburn went down 2-1 to Shildon Railway in the Durham Minor Cup.
