Waiting game goes on for Ashley – as well as United fans

WOULD you take a point now if offered it?

Or is this game very much now in the much win category?

After losing the last two home matches, United are in dire need of all three against the Terriers.

Newcastle have two points less than they did at the same 16-game stage a year ago and have a tough festive fixture list ahead, with trips to Liverpool and Watford to come.

Huddersfield have lost their last three games but still pose a big danger at home.

I think this could end up being all square. NEWCASTLE United owner Mike Ashley is still waiting for a satisfactory overall bid to come in from any of the interested parties keen on a new year club takeover. United staff woke up to headlines that a ‘deal in principle’ had been agreed with Peter Kenyon’s consortium; however, the claim has been played down by club sources. Kenyon’s consortium know that £300m is the price and they are currently scouring the club’s accounts.

Kenyon’s group are working with Rockefeller Capital Management, who have been appointed to drum up interest from investors who want to be part of the consortium.

But the USbased company are not one of the backers in Kenyon’s consortium, and will be paid a fee for their work setting up links with potential investors.

However, the progress that Ashley was hoping for 10 days ago hasn’t unfolded, which has left fans frustrated and Toon boss Rafa Benitez seeking assurances of what will follow in the January window.

We are approaching the 12-month anniversary of Ashley withdrawing from talks with Amanda Staveley when the discussions were described by sources as “a waste of time”, but whether Kenyon’s group are close to that type of reaction from the Toon tycoon remains to be seen.

As we reported on Monday, current club officials have suggested the onus is now on the interested parties to up the pace if they want a pre-Christmas deal done now.

It means that Newcastle enter the

I don’t have information about a takeover, but it’s clear this club has potential to be one of the top sides
