MAC Why Rondon needs a proper partner

-

Yet partners don’t go together automatically.

When I left United and signed for Arsenal, Terry Neill tried to partner me with John Radford, who knew it simply wouldn’t work.

The moment I walked in the dressing-room Raddy declared: “With you here that is me on my bike. We are poles apart the way we play.”

Fast forward to today and I don’t think Ayoze Perez is Rondon’s ideal partner. Perez works his socks off but he is not a natural goalscorer in the way Pop Robson was off Wyn Davies.

Perez, bless him, has missed a barrowload of chances recently despite his great header from a Rondon cross (wrong way round) against Wolves.

In fact I don’t know who is suited to Rondon at the moment.

Which is why if Rafa Benitez is given money next month I would like him to go out and buy a partner for his No 9 before he is worked into the ground.

However, the more immediate problem is Huddersfield away followed by Fulham at home.

The very least United can accept is four points but the need is for six – especially with Liverpool to come.

Huddersfield will be tough. I rate their manager David Wagner.

He is crafty tactically and he is their main hope of survival.

United must improve after their poor display against Wolves.

They made far too many individual mistakes, none more so than skipper Jamaal Lascelles.

He looks out of sorts right now and the assurance Federico Fernandez and Fabian Schar gave the Magpies has evaporated.

DeAndre Yedlin can do with the rest out of the limelight even if United are not blessed at full-back because sides are beginning to target his defensive frailties and take advantage of his naivety.

Yedlin cannot rely exclusively on his pace to eradicate his mistakes.
