A CONTROVERSIAL Heaton children’s home WILL be allowed to open next door to a ‘rowdy student party pad.’

Locals feared kids would be exposed to “late-night parties” from students living in Stannington Avenue.

One claimed the location was “thoroughly unsuitable” for the home’s occupants, who have “emotional and behavioral difficulties.’

Despite a raft of objections, Newcastle City Council officers approved the plans.

Officers used delegated powers to approve the site conditionally despite concerns about the students’ partying.

One objector said the house next door had regular parties, leaving broken beer bottles on the ground.

Another said: “They often return home after 1am and make a lot of noise, which would cause a huge disturbance to the young people who have a nighttime curfew and set bedtime.”

However, in a report, council officers state the new home is unlikely to cause any extra noise or disturbance to what is already there.

Previously, the applicant assured the council they had held discussions with the landlord of the student house and they were satisfied any issues could be “managed accordingly.”

However, the green light means four youngsters – all aged between 10 and 18 – will be able to be housed there.

Applicant One Step Care will employ eight workers, who will ensure it is staffed around the clock.
