A RALLYING call has been issued to help raise as much money as possible to feed Newcastle’s homeless this Christmas.

The People’s Kitchen and NEoffers. co.uk have again teamed up to collect donations to pay for three-course hot meals for the vulnerable and homeless in Newcastle.

Last year, the campaign raised more than £65,000. This year, with under two weeks to go until Christmas, £30,000 has been collected so far.

NE Offers owner Christopher Tubman said: “Over the last three years we have raised over £80,000 for those in real need in our community at this crucial time of year. This Christmas is no different and we are looking to help as many people as we can and we are again relying on the amazing support of fellow locals.”

Donors are asked to chip in as little as £5. The People’s Kitchen, based in Bath Lane, Newcastle, has been feeding the vulnerable and homeless in Newcastle for more than 30 years, while also providing shower facilities, clothes and events.

The charity is run entirely by volunteers, no government funding is received and no one is paid for their work.

Helpers has again teamed up with NEoffers. co.uk for a fundraising drive to pay for meals this festive period.

Last year, Mr Tubman and NEoffers raised £68,325 after thousands of kindhearted North Easterners pledged £5 to feed a friend for Christmas.

Mr Tubman understands this can be a very stressful time for everyone but more so for the homeless.

And now he has asked his customers to once again pledge £5 for the cost of a winter meal.

“In total, over the past three years, we have raised more than £80,000 for The People’s Kitchen and we hope that with the generousity of the public that we can beat last year’s figure,” he said.

“I’ve always tried to help homeless people in a small way by giving them meals, sandwiches and other food to help them but now that I run NEoffers. co.uk, I can reach out to many thousands of people and make a lot of vulnerable people happier this winter and at Christmas in particular.” David Yellowley, a Trustee of The People’s Kitchen once again welcomed NEoffers.co.uk’s generous help.

“Chris is a very important part of our Christmas campaign.

“Basic needs such as hot meals are taken for granted by many of us and a small donation of £5 will make such a difference to one of our “friends” by providing the cost of a three-course dinner.

“We are very grateful for all donations received from NEoffers.co.uk and the work that Chris does fundraising on our behalf.”
