Unstoppable Channy

- BY SIMON DUKE

OVER the past few years, the local singer has become something of an unstoppable force on the music scene so it’s only right that Channy Thompson’s latest headline show is called The Unstoppable Concert.

Oh, and there’s the small matter of the fact that the gig is taking place at the Metro Radio Arena! Channy is doing what no other unsigned local musician has done before by topping the bill at the famous Tyneside concert venue on Monday, December 17.

During a packed year which has seen her perform at massive events like Pride Cymru, Leeds Pride, Tall Ships Sunderland International Airshow and, most recently the Chronicle Champions Awards, as well as performing a string of her own concerts, Channy has somehow found the time to plan and rehearse for an arena spectacular, in conjunction with charity NE Youth.

Since her first headline show at the Hyena Cafe in spring 2016, each of Channy’s headline gigs has got bigger. From the Hyena she stepped up to Academy 2 and then the O2 Academy Main Stage and now she’s taking to the stage at a venue she’s been a fan and a support act at.

But this time it’s her name in big letters and on the tickets. And the West End lass still can’t believe it’s happening.

“I think it’s just beginning to hit me now. It’s all suddenly feeling very real,”
