A Fab result but Schar still wanting more

-

FABIAN Schar insists Newcastle United still have plenty of room for improvement – despite pulling six points clear of the drop zone.

The Switzerland international was in fine form at the John Smith’s Stadium, helping to keep Huddersfield at bay in dreadful conditions in West Yorkshire.

Newcastle held on to the lead handed to them by Salomon Rondon and solidified their place in the Premier League. Speaking after the game, Schar

said: “At the moment we have quite good results away.

“We have another important week in front of us with a game at home and it is another big chance for us.

“We are not comfortable with the results at St James’ Park – we always want to get points there, so we have to try and show the fans what we have and how we can play. We can improve a lot of things.

“At the same time, we always have to be focused and play with our heart.

“Even if it is a home game we have to be able to defend like we do away.”

Newcastle could not really afford to lose to the Terriers at the John Smith’s Stadium but have set themselves up perfectly for the home clash with Fulham.

Schar added: “We knew before the game how difficult it would be – they have a lot of big players, they put in a lot of crosses and long balls but I think we defended pretty well over the 90 minutes.

“They did not have many opportunities and after it went to 1-0 I cannot remember one big chance they had.

“The feeling during the game was good but you never know what can happen – anything can happen from a corner, a free-kick – so you have to be focused.

“That is what we did and that is the reason we won today.”
