Extra Metro services to aid revellers

-

THE Metro will be running a special late night service on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve to allow crowds to enjoy the city’s festivities.

On Christmas Eve, trains will operate a normal weekday service until 6.30pm before running hourly up to 11pm, but every 30 minutes in the city centre.

On New Year’s Eve, the Metro will run on a regular timetable until 10pm and then every 30 minutes (15 minutes in the city centre) until around 11pm.

There will also be extra trains heading to the civic centre in the evening for the free firework display.

There will be no trains on Christmas Day and a standard service will run on Boxing Day between 8am and 8pm.

Normal services will resume on Thursday, 27 December to Sunday, 30 December.

Chris Carson, Metro services director, said: “It’s a busy time of the year for everyone as they enjoy nights out and festive events with friends and family, which is why we are providing train services later into the evening on Christmas Eve and on New Year’s Eve.

“Metro is part of everyday life in our region and is the most convenient way to get around during this hectic time of year.

“We hope the extra Metro services will help make life easier for our passengers and allow them to make the most of the festive season.”
