Saints seal a fourth win over Samba

NORTH EAST CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP LEAGUE

-

SAINT Charles RC Church Gosforth and Sunderland Samba met for the fourth time this season.

Saints had won the previous three and made it four out of four with a narrow 4-3 victory in the first round of the Memorial Cup.

They started the quickest, establishing a 2-0 lead inside half an hour courtesy of Duncan Falconer and Tom Martin.

New signing Joe Donnison, who had missed a great chance at 0-0, pulled the Wearsiders back into the match on 41 minutes.

However, a minute later Falconer grabbed his second to take Saint Charles into the break 3-1 up.

Andrew Howes netted after the hour for 4-1 before Lee Andrews made the score 4-2 on 66 minutes.

Donnison narrowed the deficit even further - but the Tynesiders held on.

They are joined in round two by Jubilee Church Teesside, who defeated Stockton Salvation Army 3-1.

Michael Mayberry’s brace fired Jubilee 2-0 in front and it then took an hour for the next goal to arrive from Aaron McArthur which enabled Stockton to get back into the game.

Mayberry completed his hattrick three minutes from time.

In Division One, Morpeth Mighty Oaks consolidated third place with a 2-0 win over Heaton Saints.

Conor McCabe opened the scoring for Morpeth on 30 minutes, Blaine Evans adding the second on 69 minutes.

Oaks are now five points in front of Hope Church and two behind second-placed Jubilee Church Teesside - all the top four teams having played the same number of games.

YAV SIFF Sunderland have turned their season round in the last two weeks with two victories - and kept their run going with a 4-2 success against Blyth Family Church.

Lamine Diaby set YAV on their way after seven minutes and Mensah Koffi made it 2-0 after 20.

Brooklyn Mole got Blyth back into the match at 2-1 but after the break Youssof Oumzil and Ed Keelty put the Wearsidsers firmly in the driving seat before Mole grabbed a second counter.
