Athletic run riot to take derby honours

ONLY nine matches beati the wintry weather - including North Shields Athletic playing host to neighbours Whitley Bay A.

Marclinho Junior notched a goal in each half for a dominant Athletic, opening the scoring before Bay equalised through Andy Roberston.

Tom Crow restored the advantage shortly afterwards.

The second half was all Athletic as Phil Watson, Jonny Lowes and Dean Blacklock, along with Junior’s second, wrapped up a 6-1 North Tyneside derby win.

Percy Main defeated visitors Newcastle Chemfica 3-2.

Chemfica led through Oliver Ure before Jack Armstrong made it 1-1 at the break.

It was late in the second period before further goals were added as Connor Gayles and Chris Glass seemingly put the hosts out of sight before an own goal at the death made for a nervy finale.

Blyth Spartans Reserves ran riot in their Division One home encounter with Wallsend Community, leading by five at the break before running out 11-2 victors.

Karl Lazzari helped himself to three counters and Louis Anderson two as further efforts were added by Callum and Adam Uddgren, Liam Shanley, Andy Murray, Yannick Aziakonou and David Gray.

Chris Mason notched a late consolatio­n brace for the beleaguere­d visitors.

The top-six clash went in favour of hosts Cullercoat­s when they dismissed Hebburn Under-23s 5-1.

Laws (2), Stephenson, Nugent Doyle and Hindmarsh notched for the hosts, Nixon replying.

Strikes from Wharton, Lattimer and Texeria saw Forest Hall to a 3-1 success over visitors Prudhoe Youth Club, for whom Mitchell replied.

In Division Two, Whitley Sporting Club were beaten 4-1 at home by Willington Quay Saints.

Ellington and Seaton Sluice picked up 3-2 home results against Wideopen and Whitburn respective­ly.
