Draw proves a top result for Morpeth

MORPETH FC remain at the top on goal difference - four goals ahead of Ponteland United Reserves - after the sides cancelled each other out in an entertaini­ng goalless draw.

It was the second successive stalemate for Kennie Malia’s Pont outfit after their scoreless meeting with Haltwhistl­e Jubilee just before Christmas.

Third-placed Jubes moved to within three points of the top two, with three games in hand, after a 9-1 success over Wallsend Boys Club Developmen­t.

Greg Irwin celebrated a hat-trick, Jack Barker bagged a brace and there were further goals from Paul Wilson, James Charteries, Billy Rogan and Norman Calvert. Kieran Crawford replied for Wallsend.

Red House Farm and West Jesmond met for the fourth time this season, both sides having scored at least three times in each of those games.

This one finished 3-3, Mark Emmerson scoring twice for West Jesmond along with a Daniel Bland strike.

Gosforth Bohemian Reserves enjoyed a 3-2 victory at Swalwell, Jason Corr netting twice and Aaron Bayliss also on target.

Jonathan Seal and Owen Watson countered for Swalwell.

Chemfica Amateurs opened up the year with a 2-1 success over Wideopen A thanks to goals from Andy Massamba and Chris Rodgers. Dan Quine was the Wideopen marksman.

Craster/Embleton United progressed to the semi-finals of the Anderson Cup with a win over Ashington Town.

■■HEBBURN Town Reserves came out on top in the battle of the Wearside League’s leading two teams at Wolviston thanks to a Shaun Reay penalty and a longrange effort from Tom West.
