CHRISTMAS may be over but there was still a slice of festive cheer for the homeless and disadvantaged people.

Stars of Newcastle Theatre Royal’s ever-popular pantomime descended on The People’s Kitchen’s Bath Lane base to serve up a delicious tea party for some of the charity’s ‘friends.’

They arrived at the centre in a burst of colour, serving up tea, coffee and sweet treats courtesy of Newcastle-based Rington’s Tea.

All dressed in their costumes from this year’s theatrical extravaganza, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, the cast brought some trademark pantomime madness to an enjoyable tea and coffee morning on Friday.

Stars from the show including Wayne Smith, who plays the colourful ‘Starbuck,’ the show’s musical director Richard Atkinson and other members of the cast served up drinks and snacks to the homeless and vulnerable people supported by the People’s Kitchen.

The People’s Kitchen is a charitable institution staffed by 200 volunteers which has been feeding the needy of Newcastle six days a week for more than 30 years.

Volunteers said the actors’ visit helped them give their ‘friends’ “a bit of January cheer”.

People’s Kitchen Trustee David Yellowley said: “We are grateful to the Theatre Royal and to Ringtons for hosting this special additional event for us – a warm place to go accompanied by cheering refreshment and friendly faces is just what many people need at this time of year.”

Goldilocks and The Three Bears is at the Theatre Royal until January 20.
