North East pro fighters on show after Tynesider links

-

MANCHESTER promoter Pat Barrett is coming to town to team up with Tyneside’s Mark Clauzel and launch a series of pro boxing shows at Dunston’s Lancastrian Suite.

The first of five bills scheduled to take place this year will be on Friday, March 29 showcasing top local talent.

Clauzel said: “I have known Pat for some time and we have been holding talks for a while.

“The outcome is a programme already mapped out in detail beginning on March 29.

“I have been considering moving back into promoting and managing local fighters, having been approached by a few wanting to move into the pro ranks, and at the same time Pat has wanted to put down roots here - having dipped his toe in the water with a couple of bills.

“The Newcastle venture will be part of a national programme Pat is launching under the Black Flash Promotions banner.

“He has another nine lined up in Liverpool and 11 in Manchester, as well as promoting in Scotland.

“Up to 10 bouts will be featured next month with Jeff Saunders coming back after a tricky injury alongside his stablemate Troy Williamson.”

Saunders, one of two boxing brothers, had an unblemished 12-fight record when forced into hibernation in November of 2017.

Bouts already lined up include Jay Hughes v Jamie Quinn at lightweight, super lightweight Darren Reay v Lee Williams, welter Chad Ellis v William Warbarton, Newcastle super welter Basi Razaq v Jordan Grannum, and debutant Gary Dodds v Genadij Krajevskij, also at super welter.
