BEST OF THE REST

-

THIS TIME NEXT YEAR ITV, 8pm

MORE emotional turmoil from the show that sees people make a vow to transform their lives in one year.

Davina McCall speaks to them before the pledge, then via the miracle of television, she skips to the other side of the studio where it is 12 months on and we can see the big reveal.

In this episode, full-time foster dad Darren Charnley hopes to lose 10st, which he says prevents him from living life to the full with his young foster sons.

Elsewhere, Dean and Lucy Gathercole from Reading would love to fulfil their dreams of becoming parents after three previously failed rounds of IVF.

But perhaps most heart-wrenching of all is the story of gran Dawn Abbott, who sustained horrific burns after accidentally flicking open a lighter after knocking over white spirit.

Having barely left her home since, she wants to build up courage to collect her grandchildren from school.

Tissues at the ready everyone...

THE GREAT BRITISH SEWING BEE BBC2, 9pm

IT’S children’s week and Joe Lycett is dressed like a bumble bee. Whoever said sewing was dull?

“The clothes get smaller but the challenges get even more difficult,” Joe warns as the contestants panic about making fiddly little garments.

To test the sewers’ dexterity, judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young kick off The Pattern Challenge with a wardrobe staple of every child.

Expect to learn everything you never wanted to know about hoodies.

Next, the Transformation Challenge sees the sewers turn faux fur coats into fantastical fancy dress beasts.

Later, the studio welcomes some mini models who await some made-to-measure dance costumes.

These must be perfectly fitted, but allow enough freedom of movement for the dancing children to perform The hornpipe, the tarantella and Highland fling down the catwalk.

Who will tango their way to the top and win garment of the week, and who will stumble, becoming the second sewer to totally unravel?
