Benitez: Relegation dogfight with Terriers will not be easy

- By LEE RYDER

RAFA Benitez has warned both fans and his players they cannot fall into complacency against Huddersfield Town this weekend – despite the Terriers being 14 points from safety.

United know they can take a giant stride with three points this weekend and push Huddersfield – who are now 1/500 with most bookies to be relegated – closer to the drop in the process.

However, Benitez is still approaching the game as cautiously as ever and wants his players fully focused on the job in hand.

Speaking to the Chronicle, Benitez set the tone for the week ahead and said: “It will be a massive game.

“All of the games for us to the end of the season will be like finals.

“The next one, against a team at the bottom of the table, people are expecting it will be an easy game but I do not see it that way.

“Their manager says they will fight until the end.

“We approach the game with confidence but we must also show some respect.”

New Terriers’ boss Jan Siewert’s mentality has been quite clear since coming in to replace David Wagner.

The former Borussia Dortmund reserves boss said: “The most important thing is I come in in a very difficult situation.

“Judge us by our work and what the players are doing and this makes me proud. The supporters’ applause makes me proud.

“I will fight until the end to keep these lads in the Premier League.”
