Signings United may not regret missing out on

-

ROLANDO Aarons is desperate to show Sheffield Wednesday fans what he can do following his January loan move from Newcastle United.

The winger was one of three deadline-day signings new manager Steve Bruce made at Hillsborough, with fellow Magpie Achraf Lazaar also making the switch to South Yorkshire.

Things haven’t quite worked out for Aarons on Tyneside after he broke into the first-team picture under Alan Pardew in 2014, with injury and then a loss of form hampering his progress.

He moved to Slovan Liberec in the Czech Republic on loan in the first part of this season, but is now determined to take his opportunity for first-team football in the Championship with Sheff Wed.

“It’s a very important loan. I look at every game the same,” Aarons told the Sheffield Star. “I want to do my best. I want to make assists, take players on and score goals.

“I look at every game as important, and being here at Sheffield Wednesday is an opportunity to show everyone in England what I can do.

“I have been ready (to start) since I signed. When the gaffer decides to put me in, I will be ready to show what I can do.”

Aarons is yet to start for the Owls, having made three substitute appearances so far under Bruce.

But one thing he did learn while on loan at Liberec is that he is not a striker – with a more traditional wing role his preferred position.

“I’m definitely not a striker,” he added. “I played up front in the Czech Republic. “It was different playing with my back to goal. I learned how to use my body differently and play in different areas in the pitch.”
