CUT on the head by flying glass and bricks, Lynn Davies lived the nightmare of a car crashing into her home.

Lynn and husband Gareth say they could have died as hurtling debris shot across their living room after a vehicle careered through their garden wall, across their grass and into the front window.

“It could have killed us – we were lucky,” said Lynn, 42.

It happened just after 8.30pm on Tuesday when the couple were watching TV in their house on Sixth Avenue, Blyth, Northumberland.

Lynn said she was sitting 3ft away from the window on the sofa when panic struck.

She said: “We heard this almighty noise. I thought someone had thrown a brick through the window but the glass had completely shattered and bricks shot across the room and hit the wall on the opposite side.

“They went everywhere and a brick landed right next to me. Something hit me in the head. I didn’t see what, but it has left a cut near my right eye.

“I was terrified. My 11-year-old daughter Kelsey was upstairs and I ran up to get her.

“I was shouting to Gareth to lock the door but then a neighbour was banging on the outside telling us to open it in case the car burst into flames and set the house on fire.

“I ran out with Kelsey and she was so frightened. We have lived here for seven years and spent thousands of pounds on our home – it’s our pride and joy – then something like this happens.”

Emergency services were called to the scene and Northumberland County Council workers were quick to clear up the debris.

Lynn, a linen room assistant at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary, added: “Kelsey was screaming and crying. Last night she said she didn’t want to live here anymore.”

Gareth, 47, said: “I went into shock and couldn’t stop shaking, I was trying to get my head around it.”

A spokesperson for Northumberland County Council said: “We have been working closely with our tenants who are badly shaken but unhurt.

“The car hit the front boundary wall and bricks from the impact smashed through the front window of the property.

“We’ve surveyed the property and there is no structural damage.

“The brickwork will be repaired and replaced this week and the window next week.”

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “A 30-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs. She has been released under investigation pending further inquiries.”

Witnesses are asked to contact police on 101, quoting 1142 190219.
