THE 16th North East Disability Sport Awards, in associatio­n with Everyone Active, will be held at Kingston Park on Thursday, March 14 (6.00).

The awards celebrate the achievemen­ts and contributi­ons athletes, coaches, clubs and schools made to disability sport across the region in 2018.

More than 80 individual­s and organisati­ons have been nominated in ten categories.

■■5-0 full houses against respective opponents Winlaton and Bentinick have put Westfield B and Prudhoe SC joint top of the Newcastle and Gateshead Snooker League.

■■TYNEMOUTH Cricket Club are holding pre-season nets on Tuesdays at Kings Priory Sports Hall (7.45).

■■ENTRY forms are available for the latest North Tyneside Social Badminton Tournament at John Spence Community High School in North Shields on Sunday, March 17 (12.30).

Entry fees are £5 per person per event and £8 per person for two events and the closing date for entries is Sunday, March 10.

■■THE annual curtain-raiser to the North East Midweek Cricket League season - the Merz and McLellan Cup clash between a League Presidents’ XI and champions Kirkwood - will be played at Bates Cottages CC on Sunday, May 19 (1.30).

■■WHITLEY Bay and Tynemouth Hockey Club’s mixed team reached round four of the National Mixed Cup with a 4-2 win over City of York.

Hayes, Newby (2) and Dobison scored for Bay, who next face Ben Rhydding.

■■DERWENTSID­E Amateur Swimming Club splashed out on a multitude of medals at the Northumber­land and Durham County Championsh­ips.

It clinched 23 in the senior category and 10 in the youth section - comprising 10 gold, 13 silver and 10 bronze.

The club then contested the Age Group Championsh­ips at Sunderland Aquatic Centre capturing 11 gold, 12 silvers and eight bronze medals.

■■GEORDIESCR­EW and Pink Panthers share the lead on six points after three matches in the Soccersixe­s Consett Six-a-Side Premiershi­p.

■■MORPETH Rugby Club’s under-15 girls team reached the northern area final of the National Cup with a 58-7 victory over Darlington Mowden Park.
