There’s 10 Angels to the pound, you know!
MORE than two million ‘alphabet’ 10p pieces – including one dedicated to the Angel of the North – will enter circulation this month.
The A-Z coins – which celebrate ‘the best of British’ – were first released last year and became hugely popular, with individual pieces selling for up to £8 each on eBay, while the full set of 26 is thought to be worth around £100.
A fresh batch has been minted and is set to be released this month.
Among the coins is an ‘A’ 10p piece, dedicated to the Angel of the North.
“These 26 individually designed coins, each with a quintessentially British subject, is the first ever commemorative range struck on a 10 pence piece,” explained Nicola Howell, at The Royal Mint.
“It will be one of the most limited issue coin designs for 2019 to be released into circulation, so to complete the collection we also have an exclusively designed 2019 A to Z collector album.”
The collection celebrates the UK’s culture and achievements. The W coin celebrates the World Wide Web, or Internet, which was invented by Tim Berners-Lee.
Stonehenge, the NHS and Houses of Parliament also feature.
The Royal Mint has a ‘coin hunt’ app, which shows where different coins have been found, to help collectors complete the set.
