Fraser furious over Cherries’ ‘schoolboy’ errors on Tyneside

-

RYAN Fraser has slammed Bournemouth for failing to take advantage of crowd unrest in the defeat at Newcastle United.

The Cherries took an early lead at St James’ Park on Saturday courtesy of Harry Wilson’ strike following a clever corner routine.

The visitors then squandered chances to double their lead in a confident start.

Fraser rounded Martin Dubravka only to see his effort cleared by DeAndre Yedlin, while Diego Rico was also denied when presented with a goalscoring opportunity.

United levelled before the interval through Yedlin’s diving header, and the resurgent hosts emerged after the break to claim all three points.

Scotland international Fraser criticised his side for “schoolboy defending” and believes Eddie Howe’s side should have buried the contest by two or three goals with the St James’ Park crowd “against” United.

Speaking to Bournemouth’s Daily Echo, he said: “It is unacceptable. You can’t go into the next game and think that is acceptable. It’s just schoolboy defending. I don’t know what happened. You can’t be free in the box in the Premier League – then he goes and taps it in. We will go away and work on it, we do work on it but it just seems a recurring thing. It’s hurt us hard and badly. We just need to try to get it out of our system. The goals that sometimes we concede, for the past maybe three or four years haven’t been acceptable.”

Fraser added: “You should come here when you are 1-0 up and the crowd’s against them, you should really win two, three-nil or even just grind it out.”
