Turnbull brace is all in vain as BCL lose

WALLSEND BCL lost 8-2 at Hartlepool United and saw their lead at the top slashed to only a point.

The early-season pacesetter quickly found themselves 2-0 down.

Robyn Foster slotted home after three minutes and then 20 minutes later rounded the goalkeeper.

Wallsend fought back and on the half-hour striker Ellen Turnbull (pictured below) brilliantl­y finished over the home goalkeeper – and then equalised ten minutes later when she fired in from a cutback across goal.

However, on the stroke of half – time, Pools went 3-2 up when Caitlin Bates scored with a powerful strike from 20 yards.

Bates added her second ten minutes after the restart and then, from the kick off, won the ball back and found Justine Robinson who unleashed an effort which flew into the net.

It was 6-2 on the hour mark, Robyn Ingram again leaving the goalkeeper stranded from 35 yards.

Substitute Ellie Gutcher then notched before fellow replacemen­t Lucy Hammond-Garrington completed the scoring, converting the rebound following Foster’s initial saved effort.

South Shields suffered a 3-1 defeat at Redcar Town.

The hosts went ahead when Kenzie Parkes netted after 21 minutes and then doubled the lead 16 minutes later.

Jessica Round saw her shot parried away but Parkes ran in to poke home.

Parkes then completed her hattrick 11 minutes into the second period, beating two defenders before firing into the bottom corner.

South Shields managed a late consolatio­n goal, Grace Boyes on the mark after 81 minutes.

Bottom side Tynedale lost 8-0 at Ossett United 8-0.

■ IN the Northern Division Lumley climbed to third, winning the Durham derby match at Consett 4-1.

Jennifer Ashton gave Lumley a fourth-minute lead but Amy Wharton equalised six minutes later.

With an hour gone, Sarah Hutchieson put Lumley ahead again before Ashton netted 12 minutes from time and then completed her hat-trick two minutes later.

■ IN the Pin Point Recruitmen­t Women’s League, Ashington Town missed the chance to go top, held to a 3-3 draw at Cramlingto­n Town.

Ashington trail West Allotment Celtic and Blakelaw by a point.
