BEST OF THE REST
STAGED
BBC1, 10.45pm
THE genius lockdown drama continues, with more bickering and ego-bashing between David Tennant and Michael Sheen.
They are trying to rehearse their play online, but it’s really not going well and director Simon Evans (played by himself) has zero control over the situation.
“I don’t like you, Simon. I find you weasley,” says Sheen.
The problem now is that before Sheen was on board, there was another actor involved who dropped out for a movie. Now the film has been canned, this actor wants back in.
“He’s kind of a big deal,” says Simon, who is too scared to tell him his services are no longer required. And yes, once you see who it is, he absolutely is kind of a big deal.
In the second instalment, boss Jo (Nina Sosanya) gives Simon a dressing down.
And Sheen, who is absolutely raging at Tennant for reasons that will become clear, decides to rip apart Tennant’s acting technique. Pure joy.
KEEPING BRITAIN FED
BBC2, 8pm
THE unsung, unclapped heroes of the pandemic, supermarket workers have been diligently working hard to keep us all fed.
While we all panic-buy beans and loo roll, and double up our grocery shops, supermarkets have remained open with staff working around the clock.
In this fascinating tour, Sara Cox spends 24 hours straight in her local Tesco Extra to find out how supermarkets have been coping in the crisis.
With a whopping 500 million extra meals being consumed in Britain, it’s been a challenge.
“Yes and I feel like I’ve cooked each and every one of them,” says Sara, describing her husband and three kids as a “swarm of locusts”.
She finds out how Tesco has made it safe instore and upped its home deliveries. “I have a newfound appreciation for supermarkets,” she says.
Elsewhere, Ade Adepitan visits farms, factories and depots to find out how they have had to step up production on an astonishing scale.
