JAMAL Lewis has revealed he has aims to be Newcastle United’s answer to Liverpool star Andrew Robertson.

The Northern Ireland international was linked with a move to Anfield this summer but the Magpies moved quickly to get their man after the Reds stalled in their bid to sign the 22-year-old.

Lewis also looks up to England and Anfied ace Trent AlexanderArnold and hopes to bring similar qualities to the Newcastle starting XI this season.

Left-back Lewis, speaking to NUFC TV, said: “There are great examples, the two would be from

Liverpool, Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

“They are really setting the standard right now with how they play and the aggression and enthusiasm to get forward.

“You see how vital they are for their team.

“It has helped to highlight how important they are.

“They are really setting the standards.”

When asked to talk about his own attributes, Lewis said: “I feel like I’ll bring a lot of pace and energy. I always feel like I bring my team up the pitch and bring a lot of final third quality, crosses and hopefully assists for the team.

“Obviously, I back myself to be a great one vs one defender as well because I have the athleticism.

“I feel like I can provide a lot down the left flank.”

Lewis was an 800m runner when he was younger and represented England schools as one of the top five in the country.

Lewis reflected “When I was younger my mother was my athletics coach.

“It is something that has helped me throughout my career.

“It’s something I will use for the rest of my life as it sets a good base for me to be able to use a lot of energy and speed down the left flank.”
