A LOVING son has paid tribute to his dad who died one week after being diagnosed with stage four cancer.

David Green grew up in Langley Park, County Durham, before moving to Blackpool to run a hotel at the seaside resort.

Earlier this month, the dad-offive was told by doctors he had stage four lung cancer and would need to start treatment almost immediately to fight the disease.

Within three days the 66-year-old was in hospital, struggling to breathe and suffering with pneumonia. After just one week he died.

Mr Green’s 36-year-old son Aaron De La Rosa remembers his father as a kind and generous hard worker who never gave up.

He said: “I always remember him laughing and joking,.

“He was not a drinker or anything like that, he did not go out and socialise that much because it was always about his family.

“He was very close to his mum and he used to go and see her every day, even when he moved away they used to see each other a lot.

“He loved every day on the beach at Blackpool and he loved going to see bands play. He loved his grandchildren too.

“My dad would have done anything for us. He would do anything for anyone, he was that kind of guy, he would give you his last penny.”

Mr Green was born in Langley Park on November 21, 1954.

Growing up in an old mining town, he enjoyed playing the coronet in the Langley Park Colliery Band and even convinced his daughter Kimberley, plus his twin sons Dean and Aaron, to play in the band with him.

He ensured his children had a happy and fulfilling childhood in the North East and his son has many fond memories with his

father, which included South Shields

He added: “He always used to take us there to the beach and we would have fish and chips.

“It was always me, my mum, my brother and sister.

“He always used to take his mum too it was her favourite place as well.”

On his father’s illness, Mr De La

trips to

Rosa said: “He started to have difficulty breathing, with everything going on he was not sure whether he had the coronavirus or not.

“He went in for a scan and the doctors found a shadow on his lung.”

He later went in for a second scan and was given a crushing diagnosis by doctors - the shadow on his lung had doubled in size and he had stage four lung cancer.”

Just three days after he was told about his cancer diagnosis, Mr Green was rushed to hospital after contracting pneumonia.

He had reacted badly to his first dose of cancer medication and before long he had also developed sepsis.

He died in hospital on October 15. None of his five children were able to say goodbye to him in person due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Mr Green leaves behind wife Kimberley, daughter Kimberley Meek and sons Aaron De La Rosa, Dean Green, Marc Green and Thomas Green.
