Readers crown ASM as footballer of the year

-

ALLAN Saint-Maxmin has been crowned Newcastle United player of 2020 after our fans’ footballer of the year vote.

The Chronicle whittled down a four-man shortlist for the award with the Frenchman nominated alongside goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, Jonjo Shelvey and Miguel Almiron.

However, Saint-Maximin, who also won the Chronicle’s player of the season award for the 2019/20 campaign, has now secured a Toon double in his first 18 months at the club.

The French winger impressed last term with some big performances and scoring some crucial goals away to Southampton to help secure to Premier League status and the last- gasp winner in the FA Cup against Oxford United.

Before picking up an injury SaintMaximin had made a good start to the new season, scoring a fine strike against Burnley. Saint-Maximin scooped the award with goalie Dubravka finishing second after a superb campaign last term. Almiron was voted in third place while Shelvey came fourth.
