WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE TOURISM INDUSTRY
HELLO, DARKNESS MY OLD FRIEND
HEAD to the dark side for star tours in God’s Own County this winter. The Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks have achieved International Dark Sky Reserves designation – just in time for the annual Dark Skies Festival later this winter.
Covering 1,350 square miles, the two parks offer unpolluted night sky where it’s possible to see thousands of stars, the Milky Way, meteors and sometimes the Northern Lights.
There are just 16 other locations worldwide that have been awarded this status, five of which are in the UK.
The 2021 Dark Skies Festival runs from February 12-28 and is themed on Nocturnal Wildlife with family friendly events including night-time zip wires. Visit darkskiesnationalparks.org.uk
