We can only think about ourselves

STEVE Bruce says he is not paying too much attention to the teams in and around Newcastle United in the Premier League’s relegation dogfight.

With Fulham having faced off against Wolves last night, United now have a chance to put the pressure on their relegation rivals.

The Magpies face Burnley tomorrow afternoon with a win moving them to within a point of Sean Dyche’s 15th-placed side.

Victory would also see them sit level on points with Brighton, although the Seagulls have a significantly better goal difference than United.

Graham Potter’s men face Everton on Monday, meaning United have a great chance to draw two other sides back into the relegation battle.

Newcastle drew 2-2 with Tottenham last weekend, earning a precious point late on to boost their survival chances.

However, when asked about how important the results of other sides are, Bruce insisted he was more bothered about his own team.

The 60-year-old said: “All I am focused on is, can we get the same performance as was produced against Spurs?

“We have a couple of players back who make a difference to us at the top end of the pitch.

“Can we get the same performance? If we play like we did last week, which is arguably as good as I have seen for a long, long time, then we can hit those standards again.

“Hopefully, that will be enough to secure the result.”
