Woman sold a pup online by conman

-

A MEAN fraudster sold a puppy to a woman over the internet but pocketed her money without delivering the pet.

Jamie Seville used a pet shop’s online text service to advertise that he was selling a young dog for £550.

Under the username Dotty D, the 27-year-old was soon contacted by a female, who agreed to buy the animal.

A court heard that the victim transferred a £200 deposit to Seville but was later blocked when she tried to organise picking the puppy up.

Instead, Seville pocketed the cash until he was arrested just over two months later.

Now, the conman, of Rocket Way, Forest Hall, has been ordered to pay the victim back in full after he pleaded guilty to one count of fraud by false representation at North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.

Glenda Beck, prosecuting, said it was on August 30 last year that the woman contacted Seville after seeing he had a puppy for sale.

“She agreed to transfer a deposit of £200,” Mrs Beck continued. “She messaged him to say she had transferred it and he confirmed receipt.

“She got a message detailing where the puppy could be collected from.

“The text chat continued until she went on [the pet shop’s site] and realised Dotty D had been blocked from the site for violating terms and conditions. She panicked and contacted her bank on August 31. She tried to contact Dotty D. Her call went unanswered and she found herself blocked.”

The court heard that the victim never received the puppy or a refund.

Ordering Seville to pay the victim £200 compensation at a rate of £20 a month, District Judge Paul Currer told him: “This was an extremely mean and unpleasant thing to do to someone who thought they were in a conversation with you to get a puppy.”
