STRIKING 3D images have been unveiled showing how Newcastle’s giant new beer garden – dubbed the biggest in the North East – will look when it welcomes its first customers later this month.

Central Park is all set to take shape in Times Square – which is being ‘grassed’ for the occasion – where it will open next to the Life Science Centre on April 29.

Images offering a first look at the pop-up attraction reveal the ambitious lay-out of the container garden, which is to have ticketed entry and a summer programme offering craft beers, cocktails, street food and screenings of live sports – including Euro 2021.

A special event to mark the Eurovision final is already a sellout.

Times Square is to be fully grassed for the temporary garden and the preview images show Central

Park will feature a 15-metre by six-metre ‘Magical Mediterranean’ pergola alongside Miami-style beach huts, tropical plants, a huge 4k LED screen and a 100-metre pallet wall.

The upcoming opening of Newcastle’s latest addition to the postlockdown social scene has sparked huge excitement on social media, where it will be gathering momentum in the next two weeks ahead of the launch.

As building work begins, extralarge shipping containers will be brought to create sheltered seating areas, while others will serve as bars.

The pergola is being constructed to serve as a VIP area, while adding a blast of summer colour will be tropical plants featuring across the garden and seaside-style deckchairs that will offer front-row views of the big-screen action.

Miami-style beach huts will line one side of the site and cater for groups of four and six people.

Central Park is the creation of Two Tribes – a combination of

event companies Ape Team and Mish Mash Events, and follows the successful Paddy Fest and Oktoberfest events that have been annual crowd-pullers in Times Square.

It will run until July along Covid safety and social distancing guidelines and, with a rotation of street food traders set to feature from around the region, customers will be able to order via app and all snacks and drinks will be provided via table service.

Two Tribes’ director Gabriel Day said: “We are excited for this project to begin and to kickstart our programme of events.

“It has been fantastic to be hiring again and working with local contractors to deliver an amazing concept and site.

“We cannot wait for the public to come down to see it.”

Tickets for Central Park are on sale now and more dates will be added over the next two weeks.

There also will be announcements of more events for the programme and sport fanzone area.
