Football club shooting for funds goal

FANS URGED TO DONATE TO HELP SECURE FUTURE

A MAJOR fundraising drive has been launched to help secure the future of a non-league football club.

Percy Main Amateurs FC, a member of the Northern Alliance Premier Division, was on the brink of closure a few weeks ago.

In March the club, based at Purvis Park, in Percy Main, North Shields, announced it would fold at the end of this season and had submitted a notice of resignation to the alliance.

Bosses said it was having to close due to a lack of finances and the fact it had very few people helping to run it behind the scenes.

Its building was in disrepair and needed major investment.

However, the resignation was later withdrawn and plans were put in place to keep the club running next season.

This happened after two new directors stepped in – Ryan Lynch and Paul Springett. Now, efforts are being made to raise funds to help develop the club and improve its facilities.

As part of the fundraising scheme, launched on GoFundMe, people are being urged to donate £19.19 – for a club that was founded in 1919.

They will then receive a season ticket, valid for every Percy Main game at the home ground.

In a call to supporters, Mr Lynch, who organised the GoFundMe campaign, said: “The club, founded in 1919, has a wealth of history.

“Due to the pandemic and lack of funds and volunteers, the club came extremely close to extinction.

“New ownership has recently steered the ship but to continue and progress, the club needs your help.

“To achieve this, we are asking you to donate £19.19. For this, you will receive a season ticket, valid for every Percy Main game at our home ground. It will also give you the opportunity to be a part of the club’s history, giving you the chance to have your name forever inscribed on our new memory wall, part of our plans for the new complex we are raising monies for.”

Phase one of the project will include new floodlights and improvements to the ground. Then a new complex will be developed.

“We want to take Percy Main AFC to the next level and want the community to be a part of our success,” added Mr Lynch.

Anyone wishing to support the club can do so online.
