Nerveless Newsham prove spot on

NEWSHAM and New Delaval held their nerve in a penalty shoot-out to progress into the semi-finals of the NFA Sunday Cup.

Their tie wth fellow Standard Security Blyth and Wansbeck Sunday League side Bedlington Social Club had ended 2-2.

The Social took the lead in the first half with a goal from Damien Stevens, which they held on to at the break.

Newsham came back into the match and drew level courtesy of David Lillico.

Stevens then restored the Social Club’s advantage before Lillico scored to take the tie to penalties, where Newsham prevailed.

West Allotment also required spot kicks in the Sunday Minor Cup after their tie with Newcastle Chemfica ended goalless. They eventually went through 4-1.

In league games, Station Lounge Ashington and Blyth Town Sunday shared the spoils in a 4-4 draw.

On target for the Lounge were Matty

Nelson (2), Ben Mordue and Jordan Streener. Liam Gillesphey (2), Paul Katz and Connor Leason replying for Town.

Bedlington Station Social Club overcame Blyth Rangers 4-1.

Azeem Anwar scored for Rangers. Oliver Dowling (3) and Ethan Page for Social Club.

Bedlington Bank Top saw off Ellington Plough 5-3.

On target for the Plough were Byren Atkinson (2) and Jordan Anderson.

Counters for the Bank Top came from Glenn Reardon, Reece Farrell, Tommy Wilkinson, David Kewn and Jack Ince.

■■DAN Peacock was on the mark as Horse and Groom claimed a 1-0 victory over Crookhall Beck in Group D of the Consett and District League, while Winlaton Real Vulan beat Consett Station WMC 3-0.
