Financial impact of pandemic visible in decline in value of squad

-

THE value of Newcastle United’s squad compared to this time last year has plummeted by more than £18 million, according to a transfer valuation website.

The Magpies spent big on Callum Wilson and Jamal Lewis last summer, while also recruiting free agents Ryan Fraser, Jeff Hendrick and Mark Gillespie.

The ongoing financial ramificiations of the Covid-19 pandemic and a full season without matchday revenue means most Premier League clubs will be working with reduced transfer budgets.

Newcastle could look to trim their own squad to free up space on the wage bill, or even raise transfer fees to be reinvested.

The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic is visible in the market values given to each Newcastle star by Transfermarkt, with many falling..
