No bids yet for Magpies’ target Choudhury, says Leicester boss

BRENDAN Rodgers insists Leicester City have yet to receive an offer for Hamza Choudhury as Newcastle United face a race against time to make a loan signing before transfer deadline day.

Choudhury is admired by Steve Bruce, who tried to sign the midfielder on a temporary basis back in January - and the Newcastle head coach would love to bring in another enforcer.

However, it remains to be seen if Newcastle do any further business before tomorrow night’s deadline after the club ‘broke all the rules’ to sign Joe Willock on a permanent basis earlier this month.

Bruce has four or five targets in mind but sounded downbeat when asked about the possibility of deals going to the wire after his side’s 2-2 draw against Southampton.

Choudhury would at least be open to a move to St James’ Park after failing to feature in any of Leicester’s games so far this season.

Youri Tielemans and Wilfried Ndidi have established a longstanding partnership in the middle of the park in Rodgers’ favoured 4-2-3-1 system and summer signing Boubakary Soumare, who Newcastle previously tried to buy, is then next in line to feature from the bench.

While Rodgers is believed to be open to Choudhury going out on loan - Leicester need players to leave to make any further signings themselves - there has been no formal bid so far.

Rodgers said: “That is something we would have to wait until something would come in.

“Hamza’s attitude and mentality has been first class and there has been a lot of speculation around him going out and various clubs but we have not had any offers in.

“To his credit, h has been absolutely first class in training even though he has not featured.”
