SCOTT Heslop reflected on a dream debut for Division One leaders Consett as his brace helped his new side come from behind to beat Seaham Red Star.

After a goalless first half the hosts took a spectacula­r lead three minutes after the restart as on-loan Blyth Spartans forward Jamie Clark curled a sumptuous 25-yard effort beyond Steelmen keeper Kyle Hayes.

The lead lasted barely two minutes, with Matty Slocombe grabbing an equaliser for Consett with another goal from distance.

Red Star regained the lead with 14 minutes left on the clock as top scorer Adam Lennox evaded three challenges before firing home.

Consett hit back quickly once again as Heslop grabbed his first goal for the club before securing a dramatic win with a header deep in second-half injury time.

After the game, former Dunston UTS forward Heslop told The Chronicle: “I’m really enjoying my time at the club so far.

“It was great to get my first goals for the club and get us a win because it was a really tough game.

“Hopefully I can get a few more goals between now and the end of the season to help us get to where we want to be.”

The result moved the Steelmen eight points clear of second-placed Thornaby.

Whickham manager Tony Fawcett claimed a win against former club Whitley Bay.

First-half goals from Nathan Greenwood, Jack Robson and Sam Robson were enough to give the Lang Jacks a 3-0 win against Derek Forrest’s side.

Ashington made their long-awaited return to competitio­n action as they came from behind to claim a win against Penrith.

The Bonny Blues made the perfect start at the dwmedia Stadium as a penalty from Jamie Armstrong fired them in front with 13 minutes on the clock.

Jordan Lashley grabbed a deserved equaliser for the Colliers on the hour mark and they took the lead for the first time in the game with five minutes remaining with a goal from Adam Johnson.

Any home nerves were settled in injury time when Dean Briggs found the net to ensure Ian Skinner’s side secured a second consecutiv­e league win.

Dean Holmes and Liam McBryde were on target for Division Two leaders Heaton Stanningto­n as they maintained their eight-point lead at the top of the table with a 2-0 home win against Jarrow.

Ryton and Crawcrook Albion remain in second place as a fine free-kick from Rhys McLeod helped them to a 1-0 win at Redcar Town.

Horden CW came from behind to claim a 3-1 home win against Newcastle University.

The Uni got themselves in front inside the opening two minutes with a goal from Jack Butler – but it was their hosts who took the honours thanks to goals from Jack Maskell, Liam Wright and Marc Ellison.

Washington were 1-0 winners in their home game against Blyth Town thanks to a first-half goal from Kieren Broomfield.
