Star enjoy a six-cessful day on field

NEWCASTLE Blue Star cut Killingworth’s lead at the top of the Bay Plastics Northern Alliance League’s Premier Division to just seven points.

A first-half hat-trick from Damien Stevens set Star on their way to an emphatic 6-1 win at North Shields Athletic.

■CRAMLINGTON United still boast a 15-point advantage at the top of the Reeves Independent First Division after a 3-1 success at Forest Hall Celtic.

Newcastle Independent, with games in hand, maintained the pressure from second with a 4-1 home victory against Whitburn.

Third-placed Bedlington were held to a 2-2 draw by visitors West Moor and Jesmond.

■THE battle of the top two in the Team Valley Carpets Second Division went in favour of secondplaced Wideopen.

They closed the gap on leaders Stobswood Welfare to two points by overcoming them 2-1 , Taylor Smith with the winner.

Ponteland United Reserves also kept up the pressure on the top two when they saw off visiting Ashington Reserves 6-0.

■WALKER Central and Newbiggin Central continue to set the pace in the Bluefin Sport Insurance Third Division.
