Axed Spurs star Alli could head to Toon
NEWCASTLE United remain on the list of options for axed Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli.
The Chronicle understands St James’ Park is a destination put to the former MK Dons star by his representatives.
The man who almost signed for the Magpies in 2015 but chose Spurs at the last minute instead was left out of Antonio Conte’s squad to face Chelsea on Sunday.
Alli is represented by the same agency – Base – as Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood with head of recruitment Steve Nickson having a good rapport with the group.
That could be key going into the final week of the transfer window - but it may now be down to whether Alli is up for the journey north and ready to plunge into the Premier League relegation battle.
Alli has been linked with West Ham and Paris Saint-Germain no less in January and with Spurs making it clear how they feel about the England international he is carefully assessing the options in front of him.
He would be guaranteed game time at Newcastle and a loan deal would suit both United and Spurs.
Eddie Howe has played up the prospect of using the loan market and told the Chronicle each player’s situation would be evaluated separately.
Howe said earlier this month: “Loan deals, yeah of course. We will look at loan deals.
“I have used the loan system a lot in my past and I believe it is a successful way to recruit.
“Again, though, it depends on the availability and the quality of player.”
The Magpies are also pushing hard on Jesse Lingard but have been told either a big loan fee or hefty permanent transfer fee will sway Manchester United.
