Blyth’s Sunday’s best enough to claim cup spoils

BLYTH Town Sunday beat Newbiggin Sunday 1-0 to lift the Standard Security Blyth and Wansbeck Sunday League’s J D Marnock Cup.

After a goalless first half at Morpeth FC’s Craik Park, the deadlock was broken on 70 minutes when Ross Gilchrist scored.

Minutes later Rob Ridley hit a shot from 40 yards with the goalkeeper stranded which hit the top of the bar.

Bedlington Social Club United claimed the George Davison Cup thanks to a 4-1 victory over Jolly Bowman.

Social had the better of the early exchanges and took the lead courtesy of Michael Angus.

After the break they increased their lead thanks to Ethan Page and Stephen Lucas.

Jolly Bowman pulled a goal back through James Proctor but with five minutes to go Damien Stevens added a fourth for Social Club.

In the Premier Division, Station Lounge Ashington brought their season to a close with a 3-1 home success against West Allotment.

Goals for the Lounge came from Josh Bell, Nathan Hudson and Connor Willis. Ryan Walton scored the consolatio­n for the Allotment.

Fat Ox won

3-0 at home to Ashington Black Rose in Division One thanks to Jack Bland (2) and John Elsender.

Bellamy’s Bar needed a penalty shoot-out to see off Handenhold Bird Inn in the final of the Consett Sunday League’s Abbey Trophy.

The match finished 1-1 after extra time – Dan Castro notching for Bellamy’s and Thomas Illingwort­h for Bird Inn – with Bellamy’s then edging the spot kicks 4-3.

In Division One, Greenside won 5-1 at West Kyo Earl Grey, their scofers Steve Aiston (2), Craig Jelly, Dan Craggs and Chad Collins.
